Cops Arrest 4 Oakland Men in Connection with 'Bizarre' Tree Vandalism

The four men (pictured) were arrested and charged Dec. 1 with third degree criminal mischief following an incident last week in which a 25 foot tall, eight-inch diameter tree was cut down and logs were thrown through the window of a car, according to Wyckoff police.  

“Their actions are beyond stupid," said Wyckoff Police Chief Benjamin Fox. "They caused a significant amount of damage, they used a chainsaw at 11 o'clock at night, and to think that between these four men, not a single one of them suggested to the others that this might not be a good idea over a disputed $300 bill defies all common sense.”

Contrite and hoping to move on, the former treasurer of a Glen Rock youth soccer club  has entered a pre-trial intervention program and will likely avoid jail time.

Cops Nab Florida Fugitive At Mahwah Super 8

After seven months on the run from authorities, a Florida man with a nearly decade-long criminal past was arrested in Mahwah Saturday, Police Chief James Batelli said Monday.

Florida police had been looking for Cody Howell since April, when he was allegedly involved in a DWI crash that left one person seriously injured, Batelli said. Howell, 26, was also wanted on an unanswered cocaine distribution charge, police said.

Cops: Plainfield Man Bit Paramus Police Officer

A Plainfield man is in Bergen County Jail after he allegedly bit a Paramus Police officer while en route to Bergen Regional Medical Center, according to police.

Cops charged Gerald Guy, 44, with assault on a police officer and resisting arrest Saturday night.

Guy, who police say was intoxicated at the time, was in the process of being transported by Ramsey Police to Bergen Regional Medical Center with assistance from Paramus Police Officer Don McNair, Jr.

The latest three incidents occurred Saturday, Sunday and Monday, as the latest round of toll hikes went into effect, bringing the agency’s 2012 total to 105—already more than 20 all of last year.

The number of drivers charged reached 104 on Sunday morning, the same day the Port Authority’s latest round of toll hikes went into effect, and climbed yet again Monday, authorities said.
