Oakland Mayor Visits Barnstable Academy

Mayor Linda Schwager interacted with administrators and students as well as went on a guided tour of the school conducted by two students.

Barnstable Academy, a middle and high school college preparatory campus, got a special visit last month.

Oakland Mayor Linda Schwager visited the school for the first time May 16 and spent the day meeting with administrators and students.

Two students guided Schwager on a tour where she got the chance to see the classroom dynamics of the school.

“I had the wonderful opportunity to visit classes in session and was impressed with the students' participation and interaction in the small classes," Schwager said.

Though the campus is small, Barnstable aims to keep up facilities that any larger campus has while personalizing student experience.

The school caters to students from grades 5 to 12.
