Breast Cancer Awareness is Goal for Basketball Tournament

The Breast Cancer Basketball Challenge, now in its fifth year, will be held at Fair Lawn High School on Saturday, Jan. 5.

Fair Lawn High School will host the fifth annual Breast Cancer Basketball Challenge on Saturday to raise breast cancer awareness among female high school athletes across North Jersey.

Girls varsity basketball teams from 10 North Jersey high schools, including Indian Hills's girls team, will compete in this year's challenge, which aims to educate the 300 participating student-athletes about the disease.

At Saturday's event, each player will receive a gift bag that includes a Breast Cancer Basketball Challenge t-shirt and a variety of educational items courtesy of Leigh Hurst, a breast cancer survivor and the founder of the Feel Your Boobies Foundation.

Following the day's games, Kim Tanis, a breast cancer survivor and head coach of the Indian Hills High School girls varsity basketball team, will speak with each team about her breast cancer diagnosis and battle against the disease.

Wyckof-based breast cancer awareness group 074ATE1 will also attend the event, according to Lynn Murphy.
