Ramapo Senior Hickey Signs with UMass Amherst

Ramapo High School Senior Caitlyn Hickey signed a national letter of intent on Nov. 14 to play softball on an athletic scholarship at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

Caitlyn is expected to play middle infield/first base for UMass, a Division 1 softball program that is often a top competitor.

UMass Coach Sortino was attracted to Caitlyn due to her athletic abilities and versatility to play several positions, according to Caitlyn's mother Holly.

"Being my intended college major is business, I was looking for a strong business school," Caitlyn said. "The Eisenberg School of Management at UMass has an excellent reputation and I was thrilled find the balance of an outstanding education and strong division 1 softball program with the UMass Minutemen."

Caitlyn has been awarded All Bergen County Honors  and Big North First Team in her junior year, and the Big North Second Team in her sophomore year.

Caitlyn was a 4-year varsity starter and leadoff hitter at Ramapo; she played pitcher, shortstop and second base at the Franklin Lakes high school.

Lehigh University, Providence College, Fairfield University and George Washington University were actively recruiting Caitlyn, according to her mother.
